English
Selected writing by Yi-Ching Lee, MD — a physician licensed in both Chinese and Western medicine in Taiwan
Understand the body first. Then decide whether to intervene.
Most of what I write is in traditional Chinese, and there is a great deal of it. The pages below are a selection, chosen because the judgement in them travels: they are about how to decide, rather than about what is available in Taiwan.
This is a selection, not a separate publication. The complete body of work sits on the Chinese site. Nothing here is on a schedule.
The Icons, London — 30 September 2026. A Natural Approach to Ageing Begins with Understanding the Body: Yuan Sheng Yan Founder Dr Yi-Jing Lee on Building the Conditions for Recovery Before Choosing an Intervention.
Published in English, traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese.
The writing
Radiofrequency, focused ultrasound, threads, fillers: they do not reach the same layer of the face. With the table almost nobody publishes — what you face when each one disappoints, and why the cost of putting it right has little to do with how deep the treatment went.
Ageing does not run at a constant rate, and the evidence for that holds. Includes the well-known study whose age figures I decided not to use, and why.
One description covering six different conditions, belonging to different specialists. Three are red flags, and they get mistaken for ageing. One sentence to carry away: when you look at the eyelid, look at the pupil as well.
Six regions of the face, the muscles in each, and what each gets blamed for — together with eighteen situations where the cause sits outside muscle entirely, and who to see instead.
How I handle evidence
Everything I say publicly is sorted onto the same ladder, and the labels appear inline in the text so you can see which weight a sentence is carrying.
| Level | What it means |
|---|---|
| Established knowledge | Published literature, cited |
| Verifiable fact | Training, licensure, years in practice |
| Clinical observation | What I have seen, with its scope stated |
| Clinical consensus | Practice physicians in this field broadly agree on |
| Working hypothesis | What I am testing, and expect to be wrong about sometimes |
I keep the cases that did not improve, and the ones that did not behave the way I predicted. If the evidence eventually does not support the classifications I currently use, I will revise them or set them aside.
Three separate things
Yuan Sheng Yan(原生顏) is the name I write and teach under. Yunjiu Chinese Medicine Clinic is where clinical work and medical records sit. The Taiwan Facial Acupuncture Society is an independent organisation.
None of the three endorses the other two, and my roles in professional societies are facts about my background rather than endorsements of my methods. Keeping those responsibilities apart is a governance choice, and it is the basis of trust these ideas need before they develop any further.
I am not looking for patients through these pages.
